Press Release

Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) is excited to launch its SAAC Fellowship, funded in part with a 2-year grant from the Windgate Foundation. SAAC seeks 1-2 artists for this inaugural Fellowship, which is designed to expand SAAC's art education efforts while also building professional skills and resources to help artists remain working as artists. This Fellowship is an extension of SAAC's existing teaching artists who are part of the Art Partners Initiative, where SAAC provides a free teaching artist and supplies to 3-4 existing after-school sites. At least 2 of these sites focus on youth in vulnerable communities and this initiative reaches more than 100 youth each year.

The core function of the Fellowship is to work with after-school / outreach programs to set and teach art education curriculum. In addition, the Fellowship will be responsible for co-managing SAAC's exhibit series. Fellows are expected to be self-starters and the ability to work collaboratively without extensive oversight. A full description of the Fellowship is available on SAAC's website. Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume with references, and link to a body of creative work created within the previous 3 years to arts@starkvillearts.org before July 1, 2021.

This one-year Fellowship is renewable for a second year. Long-term continuation of this program is subject to ongoing funding. For more information, please visit the SAAC website (www.starkvillearts.net).
