Press Release The Starkville Area Arts Council is excited to announce the next exhibit in the Art in Public Places (AiPP) series, a solo exhibit featuring works by on of our current Artist Fellows, Sabrina Campbell.
The hybrid exhibit will be on display from September 6 to October 3, 2022, in the Partnership Lobby in Downtown Starkville and online on the SAAC website (www.starkvillearts.net/creativeeconomy). Campbell's artwork celebrates diversity and covers various media including sculptures. Art is not only a form of creative release but also a valuable form of communication. She is an expert at Portraiture and Text Art. Campbell is the only Artist to receive Special Congressional Recognition for her artwork. She has artwork in the Capitol that will remain there for a lifetime. Works displayed will range in media and mediums and include portraits, landscapes, sculptures using resin. The exhibit will kick off with an opening reception on Tuesday, September 13, from 5:30-7 pm in the Greater Starkville Development Partnership lobby in downtown Starkville.. As part of SAAC’s AiPP series, works may be listed for sale. SAAC provides reception and publicity, handles the collecting and reporting of MS State Sales Taxes on behalf of the artist for any works sold while taking a substantially reduced commission (20% instead of 50% usually charged by galleries). The artist keeps 80% of the proceeds. No need to be fancy, just an overview. Starkville Area Arts Council's (SAAC) latest project, the SAAC Artist Store is launching with a Ribbon Cutting on August 31 at 11 am.
SAAC has expanded the store to allow space for 8 different local artists to sell their products in the SAAC office space at 122 East Main Street in Downtown Starkville. Artisans include a variety of disciplines, including are "traditional" artists, jewelry makers, ceramicists, and graphic designers. The Ribbon Cutting will be Wednesday, August 31, at 11 am in the SAAC Office at 122 East Main Street. Artists in the Store will be there to talk about their work. Light refreshments will be served. SAAC will also have various SAAC and Cotton District Arts Festival (CDAF) merchandise for sale, including vintage T-shirts, hats, bags, and poster prints. SAAC and CDAF will also be revealing this year's CDAF poster designed by Lizzy Jorgensen as part of one of Mississippi State University's graphic design classes. More information can be found on www.cdafestival.com. The SAAC Artist Store will be open during SAAC's new public hours (Monday-Friday, 10 am - 2 pm, excluding Holidays). Although spaces are filled for now, artisans may still submit applications to be reviewed when a current artisan's contract ends.
