Press ReleaseThe Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) and the Cotton District Arts Festival (CDAF) are excited to announce this exhibit in collaboration with the Artist-In-Residence Program at the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge. A free public reception will kick off the show on Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 pm in the lobby of the Partnership in downtown Starkville.
The Artist-In-Residence Program offers professional writers, composers, and visual artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while surrounded by the Refuge’s inspiring landscape and wildlife. The program aspires to share the scenic beauty and stories of the Refuge through art. Gallery Director and Instructor at MSU Lori Neuenfeldt said, "The collection tells the story of the Refuge through the diverse artists that have participated in the residency program. Each artist communicates in different styles and mediums providing a unique perspective based upon their personal encounters with the animals, plants, history, or people." Artists from the program donate an original piece of work that both is representative of and created during their residency. These works, in turn, help promote and celebrate the Refuge and its wildlife. As part of the collaboration between SAAC and the Refuge, this collection will be displayed as part of SAAC's Art in Public Places Exhibits, starting March 3 and continuing through #CDAF2020 on April 18. This show will be on display in the Partnership lobby until April 20.
