The Starkville Area Arts Council is excited to announce an exhibit honoring the winners of the Buzzy's Art Contest April 5 - 16! The exhibit includes 64 Fine Art Winners and 27 Photography Winners! Painting & Drawing Award Winners will be displayed in the lobby of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, and Photography Award Winners will be displayed at the MSU Visual Arts Center Gallery on University. The contest and exhibits are sponsored by Cadence Bank, MSU, SAAC, and the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District PTO.

"The purpose of The Buzzy’s Art Contest is to celebrate young artists and encourage them to use art to communicate and explore the world around them in a safe environment," says Lori Neuenfeldt, Instructor/Gallery Director at MSU Department of Art. "For some students this happens in classrooms, but many create work and find inspiration at home using the resources around them – from books, tutorials, families, friends, and even pets! This past year especially proved the strength of our community and we are honored to have a respected and experienced MSU Art faculty member serve as juror and work with amazing partners to host an exhibition of artwork from our public school students."

"The Buzzy Art Contest is one of my favorite examples of how our Starkville community, school district, and university works together and pools their talents and resources to provide exciting opportunities for our children," says Lisa Long, PTO President. "As a parent, I love the spark the contest provides for my child to create art, and the excitement and buzz it brings to our schools each year. I am so appreciative of the MSU Art Department, MSU English Department, Starkville Area Arts Council, Starkville Oktibbeha School District, PTO Volunteers, and business sponsors like Cadence Bank, for making this possible!"

“We’re really excited to support young artists by pairing with The Buzzy’s to showcase some of the award winners,” says SAAC E.D. John Bateman. “This is a great opportunity to promote events for young artists and art education in the public schools.”

Filled with Best in Shows, 1st-3rd places, and Honorable Mentions, this exhibit is full of art everyone will love to see. For more information, visit www.starkvillearts.net or find the event on SAAC’s Facebook page.
