Juliette ReidCommunication Intern Your art is valuable. You’re poured hours, maybe even weeks of labor, into your creation. Now that you’ve finished that masterpiece, you want to share it, right? Perhaps loan it to someone or an organization to help you sell it! What if something happens to your work, whether it be theft or damage? What it if can’t be recovered or fixed? Who will pay for it? Does the business or person who has custody of your work have enough insurance to protect your art? Do they have any coverage at all? Do YOU? Your work is your income. You want it protected. Is your art covered? Ask galleries and businesses about their insurance coverage. But don’t leave it to the kindness of strangers: protect yourself. Your local insurance agent may help. Or, connect with nonprofit organizations like Fractured Atlas, who help artists answer these questions and find the help they need. Whether your art is dance, music, film, photography, craft, or something else, the Fractured Atlas offers an Insurance Program with a range of options for the artist, potential art volunteers, and equipment. Here are just a few issues to keep in mind:
