Two arts council events to celebrate local artists

The Starkville Area Arts Council is holding two events during this week to future and celebrate local art. The first includes the last meeting of the Arts in Public Places group's plein air painting sessions, held in the Hotel Chester's Beer Garden, located at 101 Jackson St.

Vicki Burnett enjoys an opportunity for plein – or open air – painting during Saturday's Art Walk on Main Street, hosted by Starkville Area Arts Council. Burnett had a variety of hand-painted cowbells for sale during the event.

Arts council hosts city's first art walk

Downtown Starkville will see an explosion of creativity on Saturday as Starkville Area Arts Council hosts Starkville's first Art Walk on Main Street from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Twenty local artists will display, demonstrate and sell their artwork inside Main Street businesses...

Arts Festival celebrates rain-free day

Come rain or shine, the Cotton District Arts Festival celebrated the day with cloudy skies and a cool breeze passing through the area.
Festival goers from far and wide came with their dogs, children, family and friends to celebrate local artists from both the Golden Triangle and from afar.

Last minute details outlined for art fest

Starkville Area Arts Council members will receive an exclusive benefit during Saturday's Cotton District Arts Festival – access to the first ever VIP tent.
Arts council members and patrons who are currently paid up on their membership dues will be admitted to a tented area with tables, chairs and private port-potties. They will also be given two courtesy beverages – with a choice of beer or water.

Film festival to host workshop

The 17th annual Magnolia Independent Film Festival will take place Feb. 19-21 at Hollywood Premier Cinemas as a showcase venue for independent filmmakers.
This year's festival will feature a workshop by award winning filmmakers Rob Underhill and Michael Williams. The workshop will be help at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and is free and open to the public.

Barns exhibit on display at Partnership

Starkville Area Arts Council's latest show is hanging in the lobby of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
There will be a reception for the show, which has a theme of "Barns," at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Joe MacGown, co-chair of the Art in Public Places committee, said the theme of barns came organically from what the local artists enjoy creating.
