Grants & Scholarships
The ongoing economic growth of Starkville, as well as the improvement of the quality of life for our residents is one of the most important missions of the Starkville Area Arts Council. There are many ways in which we accomplish this mission. One way is through scholarships and grants. Scholarships are awarded to teenagers and high school students for college and summer arts programs. Grants are awarded to teachers for classroom activities and to local community groups and individuals for various art related projects located in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Almost $25,000 in grants and scholarships are awarded every year.
SAAC awards 2 types of grants. All potential applicants are welcomed and encouraged to contact SAAC in advance to discuss their proposed project before applying.
SAAC awards Summer Scholarships to youth ages 11-18 who wish to enroll in summer enrichment activities in the arts, whether a summer arts camp, lessons, or more. These awards may also be used to defray audition expenses. Demand for these scholarships has increased every year, indicating the profound help that these unique awards offer.
After declining interest, in Fall 2018, SAAC suspended its College Scholarships and allocated all scholarship funding for Summer Scholarships above. SAAC believes that ongoing, early support of enrichment programs will have greater impact on young minds than one-year collegiate awards.
