Award of Excellence in the Arts

The Starkville Area Arts Council's Award of Excellence in the Arts is bestowed upon the individual, group or organization that has done the most, within the past few years, to promote and build a strong, creative, connected community through the arts.

Individuals, groups or organizations are nominated for the award by current SAAC Board Members. A Starkville Area Arts Council selection committee, as outlined below, reviews the nominations and a recipient is selected from the pool of nominees. If no worthy nominations are made the committee may make nominations assuming qualified candidates exist. No current member of the Starkville Area Arts Council Board of Directors is eligible for the award.

The Immediate Past President of the Starkville Area Arts Council serves as the chair of the selection committee, and selects two SAAC board members and up to two SAAC members to serve on the committee. At least one member shall have a connection to Mississippi State University.
