Jacob Crook
The quality of light cast into a space has the potential to bring poetry to the prosaic, magic to the mundane, and beauty to the banal. The light spilling through these nocturnal landscapes and vacant interiors serves as a sort of spotlight, transforming the scenes into empty stage sets either soon to be entered or perhaps long abandoned, suggesting the possibility of untold narratives that are just out of reach. My intent is not to tell a story directly, but to set the stage in such a way that viewers are compelled to consider the moments before and after the one presented based on their own associations with the imagery.

Walter Diehl
Walter J. Diehl is an avid world traveler and amateur photographer. He hopes that his photographs both provide viewers a glimpse into those places that he has been privileged to visit and inspire them to travel and experience the cultures and beauty of new places. Diehl does not try to be the typical travel photographer, and he probably breaks most of the ‘rules’ of travel photography. Rather, he is a traveler first who tries to take the most inspiring photographs that he can under the conditions that exist at the time. His travel habits rarely allow him to sit in one place very long or take advantage of the best light for chosen scenes or subjects. Depending on the trip, he may focus on photographing nature, architecture, culture, and occasionally people. In his world, scenes and lighting are rarely perfect, and so he is constantly challenged to make the most of this reality. Diehl enjoys the reactions of people viewing his photographs. In an admittedly selfish sense, their reactions allow him to enjoy his travels all over again. But only for a while, because now he is already thinking about how to photograph his next trip(s).
Koi Through the Waterfall

She taught in the Oktibbeha County Schools and Starkville School District retiring in 2016. Since her retirement she has enjoyed creating her own style which usually is abstract in nature and uses acrylics. She enjoys multiple genres of art and music and often listens to music as she paints. She is inspired by traveling, visiting art museums and galleries, live music concerts, and her photography of scenes she captures on her adventures locally and in various locations in country and abroad. Inspired by her 6th grade teacher, Frances Gregory, since she was a child Libby has been enamored with the huge variety of styles and movements of art throughout the world and at different time periods. Libby states, “Art transcends universal cultural barriers that humans often create.”
Mary Cecil Kimbrel
Mary Cecil Smith is a Mississippi native, born and raised in the sweet, small Delta. She grew up creating, and moved to Starkville in 2017 with plans to create her future here. Mary Cecil studied art, psychology, and religion at Mississippi State University and has been in Starkville since then, working and creating in many different ways. Mary Cecil has always recognized that her gift of creating was more than just a gift that she stumbled upon in practice, but a gift from the Lord. Mary Cecil works in full time ministry, but as an artist it is extremely important to her that her creation be centered on ministry in her personal life too. Her art is a glimpse of her identity in Christ. As an artist she is always seeking avenues to share the love of God mysteriously through her art. Mary Cecil’s art is solely about sharing a gift of love, beauty, and transformation with everyone who sees her work. The gift of creation is her inheritance as a Christian. As the Father gave her new life, she can give new life in creating.
Common Ground
Mixed Media 30.5" x 26.5" $350 "Every color has its on story in this piece. Each one has movement and represents the way each emotion in my life has come together with a common ground to paint the picture of my life. This is my testimony, this is my story, in color and in motion, and without words. I hope you can find your story here too." |
Brad James
Last Night at Chadwick
Mixed Media 11" x 14" $175 with frame "Green moss and yellow lights dance along the surface of the still waters. Cutting through the dark sky are distant beams of street lights as the small lonely bridge is accompanied by nothing but it's faint reflection in the stomach of the lake. Chadwick sits and waits for visitors day in and day out. Last night at Chadwick, the lake was left to bask in the deep darkness of the pitch black sky without a soul in sight. A moment of solitude at last. Chadwick finally gets to rest as the green moss as yellow lights dance over its weightless head." |

Soda Can
Fiber arts 18" x 24" $850 "This artwork depicts a bent, discarded soda can being urinated on. The act of "pissing on" signifies distancing oneself from what no longer serves them. By combining a commonly deemed unhealthy object with an act of release, the piece explores letting go of harmful elements in one’s life. It evokes a metaphor of self-renewal, shedding negativity and reclaiming personal well-being." |
Haley Rountree
Neighborhood Giant
Printmaking 20" x 24" $300 "This screen print is a comic-style scene of an ice cream truck in a suburban neighborhood being chased down by a giant child. The print is selectively colored with shades of blue and yellow and represents my drawing style. This piece is part of a series about visual puns, comedy and play, and fusion of processes across multiple mediums." |
Heather Richardson
Whispers of Earth
Ceramic 4 1/4" x 14 1/4" $250 “Whispers of Earth” was inspired by nature’s imperfection, and movement. Using hand-building techniques, pieces of clay were decorated randomly placed to simulate movement by the wind. Multiple colors of glazes were layered to simulate the movement of water." |
